Parenting Teens in the Scroll Era: Less Lecture, More Listening Structure
Parenting Teens in the Scroll Era: Less Lecture, More Listening Structure
Lectures bounce; structure sticks
Teens tune out when every talk becomes a warning. They still need limits—but limits land better with respect and predictability.
A simple listening structure
1. Ask one open question (“What was the hardest part of today?”)
2. Reflect back what you heard before advising
3. Agree on one boundary together (hours, locations, or device parking)
4. Revisit weekly—not mid-argument
When family therapy helps
If conflict is constant, grades crash, or mood changes worry you, bring in a professional rather than escalating alone.
PsyCore (https://psycore.com.my/) supports teens, parents, and families in Johor Bahru with counselling and psychotherapy in a confidential setting.
Connection first, rules second, help when you’re stuck—that order usually works better than the reverse.
